LUCENT POND

Lucent Pond school for the gifted wicked, serves as a last resort for students who have exhausted all other educational options. Catering primarily to the children of wealthy families, notorious delinquents, and local misfits who have nowhere else to turn, the institution manages to remain operational due to the generous donations of parents seeking to give their children one last chance to succeed.

There is no structured curriculum, no rigid schedule, and few rules beyond the bare minimum required to maintain order. Students are given free rein to do as they please for most of the day, some use their time to pursue personal projects, while others descend into aimless indulgence or (often dangerous) experimentation.

PROFILES


Jirou

Jirou would be glanced over in a lineup when asked to pick out the most troublesome student in a bunch. It would happen again when asked for who was the most successful, the most charitable, or the most charming. At a glance, the only edge he has over his peers are the extra inches in height that puts him over the national average, but as usual, there is always someone more impressionable around.

He harbors a natural curiosity for the world and its inhabitants, often lingering behind when others are seemingly done with their observations. His care and attention to living creatures has him in charge of dealing with pests and critters.

Although sociable and amicable, he can often be found by himself, recharging at a nook where he can observe people from afar or sit quietly with a friend as they pursue their own hobbies and interests. Despite his rough exterior, he has an artistic and sensitive soul.

School, helping out at the family business, and catching bugs in the creek were all a part of his upbringing that contributed to a very normal childhood in a rural village. Jirou spends most of his allotted free time practicing kenjutsu in the dojo located on their property.

Jirou is performing excellently in kenjutsu, often winning awards in local competitions and ready to compete on a national level. For his grandfather, it meant prestige for the dojo and a renewed hope for its prospects in future enrollments. His parents had different ideas, that his achievements would help him enter a good college and he wouldn’t be inundated with the task of carrying on the family business in a dwindling town.

Entering a good college meant he needed to take his studies more seriously. As a student however he was remarkably average outside of his competitions.

After a particularly poor performance at the dojo, Jirou is suspended from any further practice until he could get his temper in check.

Following an altercation with a student at school has his parents looking into Lucent Pond, which was recommended to them by a family friend. They had hoped it would curb his behavioral issues while giving him a chance to move onto higher education.

Jirou starts his second year of high school with a shaved head and a delinquent reputation, but otherwise, is seemingly quiet and amicable in class.

In the summer he returned home to his family who were ecstatic about the program, and asked him what his future plans were - college? Studying abroad? Work?

“I want to build a hutch for the rabbits.”
